Dr. Rosalind Reaves - Detroit Legacy Endowed Scholarship

“Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it.”
- Marian Wright Edelman, Founder and President Emerita, The Children’s Defense Fund

This powerful quote encapsulates an important purpose of education: to advance one’s self educationally so that one might in turn uplift and better one’s community. The Dr. Rosalind Reaves-Detroit Legacy Endowed Scholarship was established to pay tribute to the city of Detroit by supporting the post-secondary attainment of graduates of Detroit schools. The ultimate vision for this scholarship is that recipients, upon completion of their studies at Oakland Community College, will deploy their education in service to their community, and thus “leave their community and the world better than they found it.”
