Rolland C. Thayer III Memorial Endowed Firefighters

Rolland was born November 26th 1957 at Pontiac General Hospital. He was a resident of Waterford, as a child and graduated at Kettering High School in 1975. July 3rd 1983 Rolland hired on to the Pontiac Fire Department and retired after 25 years of service. He loved his job along with the Brotherhood. Rolland was a very vivacious person and loved life, his family and friends.

To be eligible for this award, applicants:

  • MUST be a current student in the Basic Fire Academy of the Oakland Fire Training Institute of Oakland Community College.
  • MUST meet all general and physical requirements of the Oakland Fire Academy and have submitted an application to the Oakland Fire Academy.
  • MUST be available to meet the donors at the fire academy graduation ceremony and/or the OCC Foundation’s Annual Scholarship Luncheon.
  • MUST agree that if the student does not complete the Basic Fire Academy, the scholarship is forfeited.
  • MUST demonstrate qualities of leadership or community service (as determined by the OCC Administrators of the Fire Training Institute)
  • MUST demonstrate financial need (as determined by the OCC Administrators of the Fire Training Institute)
  • MUST be used for tuition and other educational expenses
  • MUST send a thank-you note to the donor.
  • MUST NOT be an OCC employee or family member receiving tuition reimbursement
  • MUST NOT be a College guest student, high school guest student or high school dual enrolled student
